Far Cry 2 multiplayer is ‘by the numbers’
IGN had their reporters Alex Simmons and Martin Robinson sit down to have a go at multiplayer and while they do emphasize that Far Cry 2 MP has some nice distinguishing features their overall conclusion is unmistakable:
“Unfortunately the main shooting mechanics of Far Cry 2 don’t stand up to the opposition, it’s not as fast or precise, and that’s quite obvious in multiplayer. It’s not as solid a shooter as either Halo 3 or Call of Duty 4, and I’m not sure if it does enough different to oust either of those games from the top spot.”
“That’s what I was saying earlier – it does what it does well, but it’s nothing outstanding.”
There are feature that are much appreciated by IGN as well like the vehicles, reviving, self healing to name a few.
However at the end of the day according to IGN Far Cry 2 is mainly a singleplayer experience and with some spare time an hour or two on multiplayer should not be a waiste of time:
” Far Cry will always be a single-player game to me – that’s why I’m excited about playing through Far Cry 2, to explore the open world and have an experience that’ll be different from anyone else’s. And while I don’t think the multiplayer has to same edge as Call of Duty, I do think it’s an entertaining way to spend a few hours. I’ll definitely give it a go when the final game comes out.”

I don’t agree. I’ve spent my fair share of time on Halo 3 and CoD4 and they were fun but there totally different styles. Halo 3 is not suppose to be realistic at all. CoD4 is suppose to be more realistic but its also suppose to have hectic multiplayer where theres never down time always being shot at. The maps are generally small and you have enemies always shooting at you. I liked both of those games but personally my favorite shooters are games like Rainbow Six Vegas, where theres no perks and special abilities, its more tactical based, and not always enemies everwhere so you can plan your attack with team mates.
I know Farcry 2 will have just as fun of multiplayer, if not more, than CoD4 but if you like CoD4 and think its perfect you’ll never give any other game a fair chance and thats fine for you theres always a CoD game you can play but dont dis a good game like Farcry 2.
P.S. After Halo 3 set the bar for what to exspect from a shooter including solid multiplayer, map editor, video recording… if a new shooter coming out doesnt have atleast one of these features in my opinion they are not trying enough to push the envolope. Farcry 2 did. They give us the best map creator yet and alot of features in the game that i havent seen in any other shooters yet. It’s clearly going to be a 10/10 and have a fair shot at all the shooter and game awards for this year.
